Theme of the talk
We are delighted to welcome Neal Doherty back to the library. A lecturer, guidebook author and qualified tourist guide, Neal will give a multimedia presentation and show us Mayo, in the west of Ireland. He will take you through its history and heritage. You will learn about the Kelly ancestral home, which Princess Grace’s grandfather John Henry left in 1867. Neal will tell us about Grace O’Malley the pirate Queen, he’ll recount the major impact that Mayo has had on world history, the influence of St Patrick and other saints in the area as well as the many French links to the county and the victories of the distinguished French Revolutionary General Humbert when he arrived in 1798, now known as the 'Year of the French'.
Basically a wonderful evening of storytelling with anecdotes that will enthrall you!
